CRISTIANO RONALDO NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR AT 2018 GLOBE SOCCER AWARD



             Cristiano Ronaldo received the Player of The Year Award
Portuguese and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was named Player of the Year of the 10th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards at Madinat Jumeirah Resort in Dubai on Thursday night. The Serie A side man beats the likes of the Frenchmen Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe to name the player of the year in Dubai presented by HE Mattar Al Tayer, VP of Dubai Sports Council.

The 33-year-old who moved from Spanish side (Real Madrid) to the Italian Serie A giants Juventus during the 2018 summer transfer window has impressed his fans all over the world. Ronaldo at the age of 33 is still adding more titles to his career.  

In the 2018 Globe Soccer Award, Ronaldo was nominated as player of the year alongside Antoine Griezmann who plays for Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Primera Liga, and Kylian Mbappe who plays for Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1. Ronaldo emerged as the winner beating the France duo to win the player of the year award making him the five times winner of the title after lifting the title last year.

The Portuguese man had a successful 2018 for club and his country. Despite his country didn’t reach the final of the World Cup held in Russia 2018, he did spectacular start in 2018. Ronaldo last season helped his former club Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League title after scoring 15 goals to become the top scorer in the competition.

It was a good night for Cristiano Ronaldo and also a good start for the year with a fantastic award. The Portuguese star also won the ‘goal of the year’ award with his fantastic overhead kick against his curreunt club Juventus in last season Champions league game. According to the Italian side man, when receiving the award he said;

"The year has started very well with this fantastic award, and with this beautiful goal that I, unfortunately, scored against my current team, so I'm not totally happy (smiles),”

"I thank the fans who voted for me, the goal is to keep scoring. I've scored almost 700 goals in my career and this is more beautiful than I first thought.”

Ronaldo at 33 years is still putting smiles on the faces of his fans by adding more awards to himself. His target now is to help his current club Juventus to lift up both the Seria A and the UEFA Champions league titles in this season.
